THE SOUNDTRACK

The soundtrack is based on original Voodoo recordings done in Benin. 40 musicians from all over the country came together to record music and sounds including percussions, songs and choirs. A complete sound studio was built in a sacred forest. In order to appease the gods a ceremony was arranged beforehand. The recording equipment was sprinkled with blood from sacrificed goats.
For the soundtrack, Peter Scherer and Boris Blank (Yello) used samples from these original recordings and integrated them into new pieces. Contemporary musician Charlotte Hug melded her own avant-garde work with traditional African elements.
Film composer Jochen Schmidt-Hambrock provided material both lyrical and dramatic, capturing the magic of the Voodoo ceremonies.
